It's implied in that film that it's important to keep your head above the water to keep happy, and it's a link that Thom Yorke has sometimes referred to in his lyrics; on 'Kid A', he centred 'How to Disappear Completely' on the River Liffey, and seven years later, he'd drifted out into the ocean. But 'Weird Fishes' isn't a tale of hopelessness, a sequel on his inability to conquer those post-millennial demons, but one of the most uplifting songs of the band's career. It effervesces with guitar and keys like jacuzzi jets, as Thom's found someone who "turns him", makes him want to escape the horrors of the seabed. It's weaved with uncertainty, and charmingly so: it's a band who want to be confident that everything will be okay, but are still being held back by tiny crustaceans of doubt. But that's about as carefree as Radiohead venture, and 'Weird Fishes' is a luxuriously colourful rush to the water's surface.
