25 Best Thom Yorke Songs

23. Lotus Flower

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfOa1a8hYP8 Artist: RadioheadAlbum: 'The King of Limbs'Year: 2011 Oh, that video. In an interview for 'In Rainbows' on Irish TV, Yorke and Ed O'Brien were asked what was next for the band. The answer was a bit of a strange one - "a 70s dance-inspired" song - but assuming they were talking about 'Lotus Flower', it was absolutely the right move after 'Videotape', the flickering finish to that era. Not exactly their 'Get Lucky' though, 'Lotus Flower' is a wry smile of a song, seductive without even looking at you, and infectious in a way that Radiohead never had been before. There's a subdued lunacy within that gnarly bass that doesn't erupt - not in the studio version anyway (see the From The Basement performance) - but it unfurls, just as the chorus lyric suggests. And for the massive shift in tone from 'In Rainbows', that wonderfully nebulous chorus is classic Radiohead.
