19. Black Swan

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6KnsfLI_Po Artist: Thom YorkeAlbum: 'The Eraser'Year: 2006 Thom's solo endeavour was one that raised eyebrows when it was first announced: how much would he miss Jonny Greenwood? On 'Black Swan', the answer happened to be "not a lot". It's a hell of a lot more confrontational than a lot of Radiohead's material - the reiteration the f-word helps ensure this - but it's a track on which you can hear a less claustrophobic Yorke than usual. It's as if the windows are open, he has the house to himself, and he doesn't care who's listening; the shimmer of guitar and cut-up drum pattern add to the spellbinding production, and as usual, the melody is beautiful. A hugely underrated gem from a hugely underrated album.
