25 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums Of The Last Decade
15. Pusha T - My Name Is My Name
One skill that every rapper should have is the ability to talk about different topics in their songs. After all, there's only so many times you can tell the same story before it gets repetitive and boring. However, if there's one rapper who can get away with it and practically rap about one subject throughout an entire album it's Pusha T.
He does exactly that on his debut studio album, My Name is My Name, effortlessly stringing together lines about selling cocaine like no other rapper before him. There might not be a verse on the entire album that doesn't have some sort of reference to the highly illegal substance and that's actually a good thing. It's truly astonishing how he's able to successfully use double entendres, analogies, metaphors and similes just around one theme.
What's even more incredible is that he's able to incorporate all of this into his all of his songs, giving every subject he speaks on its own personal Pusha T spin. Tracks like "Nosetalgia," "Sweet Serenade" and "Let Me Love You" are all outstanding, but the song that represents the album perfectly is the second song on the album, "Numbers on the Boards."
A snarling beat from Kanye West lends itself perfectly to Pusha's boasty bars. Some beats from West can take the shine off of a rapper, but West gives Push all the space in the world to put his point across clearly on this song and throughout the entire album.
