25 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums Of The Last Decade

1. Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, M.A.A.D City

If you weren't searching through the hip-hop blogs during the early 2010s, you might not have been paying attention to Compton MC, Kendrick Lamar. However, when he released his second album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, his stock rose dramatically. Rightfully so - after all, it's not very often that an artist makes an album that seems to resonate with hip-hop fans and music fans in general.

Lamar's ability to use his lyrics to bring us into his world might be his best quality and he does it masterfully on this record. On "Sherane a.k.a Master Splinter's Daughter," you hear him describing El Segundo Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue in Los Angeles in such detail that you almost feel like you're in the backseat of his car as he drives to meet the subject of the song.

When it comes to telling stories, Lamar uses Good Kid, M.A.A.D City to show everyone that there are not many who compare to him. He paints a picture so vivid that it makes it feel like you're watching some sort of TV show or film. A lot of credit needs to be given to the production on this album too. Even though the beats can change mid-song, like The Art of Peer Pressure and Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst, none of it takes you out of the experience.

Hip-hop fans are always looking to add a new album to the list of legendary records created by our favourite artists. While those albums are rare, it's impossible to deny the impact this album had on the culture. When we look back at the 2010s, out of all the albums on this list, this will be the one that is considered a modern hip-hop classic.
