25 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums Of The Last Decade
2. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
However you feel about Kanye West, you can't deny that the man is talented at what he does. After putting out a number of classic albums throughout the 2000s, West created what many believe to be his finest work ever with his fifth album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
It's a pretty accurate title for an album that can feel like a smorgasbord of emotions at times. You get all the different versions of Kanye West on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Funny Kanye. Serious Kanye. Confident Kanye. Vulnerable Kanye. The Chicago MC completely opens up and that's what makes this record feel so complete. It feels like his previous releases - although they were great on their own - were leading to what many consider to be his magnum opus.
It's tough to pick a standout track from this particular album. It might sound like a cop out to say that it's an album full of standout tracks, but you could genuinely pick one song at random and find something special in it. He can switch from effortlessly trading braggadocious bars with rap elites like Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj on "Monster" and "So Appalled" to getting deeply personal and reflective on tracks like "Blame Game" and Runaway. This is West at his finest.
Regardless of how his recent antics and shenanigans have divided his fanbase considerably, they can still be brought back together with his music, especially an album as great as this.
