30 Grime Albums You Must Hear Before You Die

1. War Dubs

Along with Kanye West's foregrounding of several of its key players during his 2015 Brit Awards performance, the biggest indication of grime's resurgence occurred in 2013 during the Twitter and SoundCloud "dub war". The war involved artists competing to create the most aggressive grime beats in response to Twitter taunts of other producers. Both major stars within the genre (including Wiley, Preditah and Jammer) and newcomers with little previous recognition (like Inkke and Kahn & Neek) were involved. It went on for several days, with many of the producers highlighted in this list battling it out. While there were certainly plenty of "throwaway" tracks, the event threw up far more interesting and innovative pieces than could have been anticipated. The war dubs show off the diversity of contemporary grime instrumentals while revealing just how quickly these producers are capable of putting together truly out-there pieces of music. Many of the best can be found at the link below (thank you to the excellent GrimeForum for compiling these!): http://www.grimeforum.com/audio_category/producer-war-dub/
