30 Grime Albums You Must Hear Before You Die

2. Dizzee Rascal - Boy In Da Corner

12 years on from its release, Dizzee Rascal's ridiculously impressive and innovative debut album still sounds chaotic and fresh. It's incredible to think that the now ubiquitous music star was only 17 when he self-produced what is still grime's totemic full-length album. If anyone is looking for somewhere to start with grime, they could do much worse than Boy In Da Corner. It's effectively the starting point for everyone, really - most people coming into the genre tend to have heard of Dizzee from elsewhere, and dive into the grime world through him. Although Dizzee gradually moved away from grime as he became increasingly famous, his lasting impression on the scene remains. BIDC is the most famous and successful grime album even now, and though he is arguably not as important to the scene as grime's godfather Wiley, the image of Dizzee on the album will always be a truly iconic image. This is the moment when club production and UK rap vocals came together most effectively. Boy In Da Corner is grime.
