30 Grime Albums You Must Hear Before You Die

28. Various - Grime 2.0

The label Big Dada put together this selection of grime instrumentals in order to highlight the diverse and transnational nature of contemporary grime, and it is a great introduction to the angular rhythms and suffocating bass that have come to define the genre's sound. Tracks from Australia, Japan, the USA and many other countries flood this set, emphasising the remarkable international influence of this east London scene. Several artists that appear on this list are included (Visionist, Mr. Mitch, Faze Miyake, Royal-T), as well as lot of the scene's figureheads (Wiley, Youngstar). Practically every track on here is worthy of a listen. Almost every branch of the genre is covered, from darker, aggressive textures, to sensual, groovy rhythms, to sparse, melodic soundscapes. A good place to start if you're interested in the newer stuff in particular.
