Any number of Wiley albums could have been included on this list (and this certainly isn't his only entry on here), but in terms of expressing the sheer impressiveness of Wiley's innovative production style it feels right that a compilation of his most experimental tracks should be here. Avalanche Music 1 compiles 22 of Wiley's Eski/Eskimo tracks. Eski is effectively a sub-genre of grime created by Wiley himself in reference to the ice-cold textures of his instrumental productions. Most of his best are in this compilation. What is incredible about this compilation is that, despite many of these tracks are well over a decade old, the album still sounds unbelievably weird. Wiley was so far ahead of his time that even his many imitators have failed to match how progressive and forward-sounding these tracks were and still are. Wiley himself MCed over many of these tracks (as did many others), and most of his best flows are located over the top of the likes of Ice Rink, Igloo and Ice Cream Man. This is a crucial release in grime's history, and it remains a key album for grime's future too.
