5 Awesome Rock Bands You've Wrongly Slept On
4. Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction has a unique spot in the public consciousness. Many fans of the band cite big hits such as "Jane Says" and "Mountain Song" when bringing them up, but not much else. What Jane was able to accomplish is something few artists had the ability to do in the late 80's: bring alternative rock to the forefront.
While Nirvana blew the doors wide open for all kinds of alt-rock in the 90's, Jane's blend of funk, rock, and metal helped get the rock community acclimatized to bands that were a bit more eccentric. Their flirtations with had a huge influence on fellow rockers like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose bassist Flea sat in with the band on a few occasions.
The band's first records are an eclectic mix of heavy rock of the 80's with a funk and R&B rhythmic approach. It was Led Zeppelin by way of James Brown, which made for some unreal jams on songs like "Stop!" and "Been Caught Stealing."
For anyone who gets down with the more rhythmic side of alt-rock, this band is right up your alley. Give the record a spin and have a blast!
