5 Bands To Check Out If You Love Tool
4. Static Tension
As the only band on this list to share their nationality with Tool, the current incarnation of Static Tension formed in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 2014. Preferring the genre label of ‘progressive grunge’, Static Tension compile a magnitude of 90’s influences into their music, with the overwhelming genre conventions on show being prog rock, grunge and even melodic metal.
Static Tension’s first original material was unleashed onto the world in 2014, in the form of a four-track EP titled ‘Rebirth’. This helped the band to earn a reputation in the Cincinnati region before their 2016 EP, ‘Out of Reach’, allowed them to extend their name across international borders for the first time. A small line-up reshuffle in 2019 did not derail the band’s momentum, as they pounced on the opportunity to record a full-length album. ‘Ashes to Animation’ was released in January 2019 and is the band’s most recent material.
Static Tension’s main influences aside from Tool include Black Sabbath, Mastodon, Dream Theater and Gojira.
