4. The Rolling Stones - Glastonbury
With the band's age at an average of 69, anyone hoping the Rolling Stones would ever top the bill at Glastonbury must have been losing faith. But they, and all other music fans for that matter, were dealt a fine hand when the legendary rock band was announced. The dealer in this context being Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, who said securing the band as headliners was like "winning the world cup". Members of the crowd will have been feeling similar euphoria when the Rolling Stones strolled onto the pyramid stage for the very first time. Although already mentioned, it's worth repeating: The average age of the band is 69. Which makes the fact they played for a consistently great two hours all the more impressive. The Telegraph called the performance "One of the greatest Rock 'n' Roll sets Glastonbury has ever seen". That should give you an inclining of how high the standard was. Not bad. Not bad at all.
