5 Mediocre Albums By Great Bands

3. Weezer - Raditude

Weezer is an anomaly of a band. On one hand, they have put out some of the most ear-pleasing power pop ever recorded. On the other hand, they have spent many albums delving into genres that just do NOT work for them. Raditude stands as the worst offender in Weezer's catalog for its lack of originality and terrible experimentation.

From the start, the album is way too polished. While power pop lends itself to better production, the lack of crunch makes the record seem way too sanitized. The quality of the songs are pretty abysmal as well. In lieu of stretching his songwriting skills, frontman Rivers Cuomo decided to work with professional songwriters on songs that were entirely out of his wheelhouse.

The worst offense of this album has to be the rap rock hybrid on "Can't Stop Partying," where Weezer enlists the help of Lil Wayne on a song about clubbing. The song could have been fine in a different setting, but the tonal clash between these nerd rockers singing about clubbing is too hard to ignore. This is widely accepted among fans to be Weezer's worst effort, and given the band's track record, this was the first time the band had an outright flop on their hands.
