5 Mediocre Albums By Great Bands

2. Green Day - Uno, Dos & Tre

Yeah, this entry is a little bit different. Instead of one glaring misstep, Green Day's triple album released between 2012 and 2013 contained some of the most milquetoast material the band had ever released. While the band continually talked up the trilogy's grandiose ambitions, the music was never able to stand on its own apart from the hype.

Is anything salvageable? I'd say yes. If you combine all the good moments from each of these albums, it would be a solid Green Day release. Having each of these moments spread out across three albums and hours of listening just becomes too much to bear.

That being said, I can see where the band was coming from here. Their idea seemed to be to make records centered around their musical heroes, from the Ramones to the Beatles to AC/DC. The way these compositional ingredients were mixed together made for particularly nauseating musical stew. Even Billie Joe Armstrong himself has since gone on record to say that the Uno, Dos, and Tre trilogy was one of the most pointless endeavors the band have embarked on. Given the music at hand, I couldn't agree more.
