5 Metal Albums We Should Still Crank (And 5 We Should Tank)

7. Crank It! Neurosis - Through Silver In Blood

When this transformative record dropped in 1996, its genre-melding blend of hardcore, industrial and sludge-metal was Neurosis in their fully-evolved form.

Through Silver In Blood is the fifth studio album for Neurosis. It's also their highest charted release and most critically acclaimed. This marked the first appearance of keyboardist Noah Landis. Landis' contribution brought a new layer of darkness and experimentation for the band.

There is something about albums rooted in genuine pain and desperation that make them stand above the others. Individually, the members of Neurosis were dealing with darkness in their personal lives. Through Silver In Blood takes the listener on a first-hand journey through that pain. It's unpleasant at times, and that's the point. At times intense, others hypnotic, the juice is worth the emotional squeeze.

There's no point in naming stand out tracks, as the record is best when consumed as it was intended: From beginning to end.

The A.V. Club writer J.J. Anselmi said that the record's influence "reverberates in the sounds of countless bands." and that In Silver In Blood has "a shelf life that has yet to glimpse an exipration date." Don't just crank it. Crank it right now while you read the rest of the list. Go on. We'll be here.
