5 Musical Chameleons
4. Bjork
Bjork has always had a weird relationship with the mainstream. When she debuted as a solo artist in the 90's, she tended to get lumped in with other artists in the alternative scene. However, each of her records has been a bold new artistic direction as she's continued to follow her own vision.
Many people tend to sight her 1995 album Post as her definitive record, but her later releases have taken quantum leaps. In the 90's, she would flirt with electronic and trip hop sounds while throwing in obscure jazz covers. As the millennium ended, she was taking on more extravagant musical productions with broad string arrangements. Perhaps her most ambitious undertaking was creating her album Medulla centered around solely the human voice, with each musical piece on the album being sung.
Ever since, Bjork's sound has changed in leaps and bounds while still pouring massive amounts of emotion into each composition. She tends to have an attitude of apathy towards what is popular and finds it more exciting to freely take risks. Whenever music can seem homogeneous, Bjork always has the knack for finding that one musical road no one has gone down yet and coming up with pure gold.
