3. Yoko Ono
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3mvEfON2CI Although the title of this piece implies that these artists would be better focusing on singing rather than preaching, I'd rather Yoko Ono didn't bother singing either. Again, while she has over time taken on worthy causes (AIDs, Autism, Disaster Relief) she has done so while becoming one of the most irritating people alive. For those unaware, Yoko was an artist who met John Lennon and began a relationship with him resulting in a divorce from his then wife Cynthia. The two immediately started setting the world to rights including famous "Bed In" protests against war. Yoko's relationship with John is the very definition of "whipped" with John immediately believing her to be a good enough musician to not only collaborate with him but to appear on the Beatle's "White Album." She may be considered to have SOME musical talent but was that enough to warrant an appearance on one of the greatest albums of all time? There's no doubt Yoko and her causes had an effect on Lennon and his music and she has been roundly accused of being the reason the Beatles broke up. Paul McCartney has since stated that he doesn't believe it to be so, though there's no arguing that the John Lennon that existed before meeting Yoko Ono was a very different person. Despite being a huge talent and inspiration to many, John became that friend you know who gets a girlfriend a changes completely. Comedian Bill Burr has a great bit about exactly how whipped Lennon was, allowing Yoko to ruin what should have been a legendary collaboration between John and Chuck Berry by grabbing a mic and yelling for no reason instead of playing a drum like she was supposed to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ss0XNOWvzlU And as far as I can tell, random noises are her "go to" vocal styling these days as recent performances have degenerated into the same nonsense. She recently appeared on Letterman with the Flaming Lips and spent the entire performance alternating between screaming things like STOP THE VIOLENCE, STOP THE WARS and just hollering into the mic like a banshee. Seemingly, she believes that as long as she is saying something about peace, she doesn't need to have a good song to back it up. Despite some of her older work being praised by critics she now just looks like a confused old Asian lady her forgot the words to her song and resorted to screaming instead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXXn3-UpusI Yoko's musical career never hit the heights that John thought she should have but her style was never going to break the mainstream. Over the years her highest charting songs have been dance remixes of her tracks rather than the original song she puts out. Again, she is a case of someone who fought for good causes but did it in the kookiest way possible resulting in less and less people taking her seriously over time.
