5 Reasons Why We Love Jimmy Eat World

2. They Made The Quintessential Emo Album In 'Clarity'

Released in 1999, 'Clarity' was a critical smash, but sales failed to match up to the acclaim. Nowadays the album enjoys a cult-like following. Producer Mark Trombino has never put his name to anything near as good, despite having working on records that have sold far more. His input of drum-loops, sequencing, as well as his overall mix is integral to the records dynamics, but, at the heart of it all are the incredible songs and the wonderful journey the thirteen songs take you on. In an article years after its release, Kerrang said that 'Clarity' was the bands essential album and went on to say - "Every note and syllable resonates with the kind of heartfelt emotion we'd like to think is poured into everything we listen to". At it's heart, this is simply a rock record but there are elements of Punk Rock, sophisticated Pop and subtle flourishes of Electronica. Even on the more edgy tracks here, JEW display their knack for writing melodies to-die-for. This is something they would never lose the ability to do from here on on out. The record is so influential and many younger bands cite it as, collectively, their favorite album. Some even say it the reason they play music and form bands. Many have also tried to match its brilliance, with none coming close as yet.

Live and work in Aberdeen, Scotland...unfortunately. Sang in My Minds Weapon (Basick/Drakkar/Sony) for ten years (2002 - 2012) and now just tinkering with various other projects. Die hard Leeds United fan. Metalhead in my heart but also love many other genres of music. Also enjoy anything with Christopher Walken or David Caruso. Family live in Perth, Australia, so have been there many times. Best place in the world.
