5 Returning Bands That Failed (And 5 That Nailed Their Comeback)
8. Failed: System Of A Down
System of a Down reformed in 2010 and honestly, given the activity of the band since, they might as well have not bothered.
Formed in 1994, the Armenian-American group took the world by storm with their brand of artistic nu metal, counter-arguing the one dimensional complaints that was aimed at their peers. They then went on to release five records over the course of seven years with barely a dud in the lot.
Following their headline show at 2006's Ozzfest and 2005's double release of Mesmerize and Hypnotize, SOAD announced that they'd be taking a break, with members going on to work on various projects
After extensive internet rumours, System announced they'd be reforming for a series of live dates. While critics did rate their individual shows, festival appearances (including headlining 2011's Download Festival) drew criticisms of band members looking bored and disinterested.
Since then, conflicting reports have surfaced regarding a new album with Dolmayan, Odadjian and even Malakian all keen for a new album, the only conflicting factor being Tankian flip-flopping his interest, saying "the openness is there to work together" in 2015 to "screw vocals. I'm tired of it" in 2017.
