5 Returning Bands That Failed (And 5 That Nailed Their Comeback)
4. Failed: The King Blues
Once upon a time, The King Blues were everyone's low-key punk darlings.
Ranging from ukulele-led dreamy folk punk to angry borderline rapcore, The King Blues had a mood to suit everybody. Achieving success with back-to-back triumphs Save the World. Get the Girl and Punk & Poetry, Jonny "Itch" Fox became an unofficial voice of the voiceless, taking diss track-quality barbs at the UK's leading political faces, with the occasional sprinkle of a love song or two in between.
It's not quite clear what happened by the time of 2012's Long Live the Struggle, but the quality took a dive bigger than Brian Blessed's Hawk Men in Flash Gordon. The band recognised this, announcing their break-up three months before the album's release.
The King Blues remained absent until early 2016 when they came back with return EP Off With Their Heads which was.. awful. Seemingly released with little-to-no post-production in an attempt at a more raw sound that more resembled a cat in a bin, a full-length album soon followed up with The Gospel Truth.
While it's an improvement to Long Live..., it's in the same way as a slap in the chest is better than a slap in the nuts.
