5 Returning Bands That Failed (And 5 That Nailed Their Comeback)
3. Nailed: Take That
And now for something completely different.
Have so much as a fleeting look at the UK music scene in the 90s and you will undoubtedly come across a cheesy, industry-backed pop scene headed by Manchester-based quintet Take That. The boyband electrified fans and critics alike with their impressive vocals, somewhat unique ability to actually songs and, of course, abs with more definition than an Oxford dictionary.
Whilst their on-screen image was that of a group of clean-cut heart throbs, behind the scenes was a bit more rock and roll, with an abundance of drugs being taken by members of the group. This resulted in the band issuing Robbie Williams a make-or-break ultimatum due to his erratic behaviour. Williams famously left, and while Take That did try to continue as a four-piece, they inevitably broke up the following year.
Ten years later, and Take That (sans Williams) returned to some scepticism as to whether they could keep up with the new era of boybands.
Oh boy could they.
Beautiful World remained in the UK Top 100 for over two and a half years and has been certified Platinum nine times. They have since release four more albums, with all but one becoming a UK No. 1.
