5 Tearjerker Songs

This shot of empowering music was first put together out of a tragic event. When compiling songs for Coldplay's next record, Chris Martin's family was struck a heavy blow when his father-in-law passed away. In an attempt to cheer up wife Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin found one of her father's old pianos and started to compose "Fix You."

The song starts off in a desolate headspace as Martin details what it feels like to be stuck in a heartbreaking situation. However, the chorus is able to subtly lift our spirits as Martin promises to be with you every step of recovery. As we begin to cheer up, the band continues to build until the lead guitar gives way to a stadium-worthy break down as the band beautifully intones to be by your side at all costs. You can practically feel the tear falling from your eye as the band delivers the line "tears stream down your face."

This tune helps us all to remember that no matter what life throws at us, there will always be a light that is shining through the darkness waiting to guide us back home.
