5 Tearjerker Songs

1. Tears In Heaven - Eric Clapton

Out of all the songs on this list, this tune comes from one of the greatest lowpoints an artist can undergo. At the turn of the 90's, Eric Clapton was dealt an incredibly heavy blow when he received word that his 4-year-old son Conor had died after falling out of a window in New York City. Completely shattered, Slowhand turned to his companion in music to find his way out of his personal hell.

The delivery of the song reads like a mournful lullaby to Conor's memory. The lyrics of "Tears in Heaven" reflect the thoughts of a heartbroken father as he tries to make sense of living in a world without his son. While he feels he failed on this earth, Clapton takes comfort in the fact that Conor is in a better place where there will be no more tears left to shed.

On many occasions, Clapton has expressed a desire to retire the song from live performance because of its emotional significance. However, by gracing the music world with this song, Clapton has helped millions of fans cope with their troubles and move on with their lives. A song that exposes our mortality with a melody that may just be immortal.
