5. The Fake Heads
At the start of the music video, we watch as Arcade Fire done their oversized, paper mache, slightly creepy heads. These heads continue through the video, and seem to represent Arcade Fire's 'reflektor'; distorted, mirrored images of themselves. This is most notable when the members of Arcade Fire and their big-headed alter egos meet up and mirror each others dance moves (despite the fact we saw the band don the heads at the start of the music video. We also see big headed Arcade Fire face themselves, after crawling over muddy fields to face their reflection in a river, almost like failed clones, realising what they are, before standing up, defiant to face their originals Philosphy aside about what the heads represent, they are most frequently seen in the video... dancing. They bust some funky moves around a CD covered coffin, and get very enthusiastic playing the keyboard. The giant heads can represent a lot of things, but at the same time, give a weirdly comical element to the music video.
