Hot Fuss is an album which manages to be at once progressive and traditional. It sounded shiny and new upon its 2004 release, but takes many musical cues from popular music of the previous two decades. Dramatically vamping synths alter an otherwise traditional rock set-up and result in a series of world-conquering singles. 'Somebody Told Me', 'Smile Like You Mean It', 'All These Things That I've Done', and the colossal 'Mr Brightside' solidified The Killers as leading lights of the indie rock scene on both sides of the Atlantic, and opened the door for a slew of imitators.
