50 Rock And Metal Albums You Need To Hear Before You Die

5. Black Label Society - Stronger Than Death

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UADsBNBy1HA Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society have had a sketchy discography, from the first album's dirty, poorly produced noise to their most recent Catacombs Of The Black Vatican being an album where Wylde appears to be going through the motions because the record label needed another album. Back in 2000, Stronger Than Death was released and made waves in the hard rock world as Wylde had finally found his ideal solo sound. No longer did he sound like Ozzy or Pride & Glory, no, he had found a sound for BLS that was all it's own. Heavy, dirty and groovy, Stronger Than Death is best enjoyed while kicking ass and drinking beer, making sure that you enjoy every classic riff, scorching solo and down 'n dirty vocal line.

4. Rush - Moving Pictures

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jr7llQ6gNQ As Rush moved into the 80s, their success was beginning to build and Moving Pictures launched them from a well respected Canadian prog band to world wide stardom. Two of the singles from the album (Tom Sawyer and Limelight) have gone on to define the sound of Rush going forward, becoming two of their most loved songs by critics and audiences alike. The album also features their universally-adored instrumental YYZ which has remained a staple of their live shows ever since. Simply put, Moving Pictures was a massive album that cemented Rush's place in the annals of rock legend.

3. Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part II

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJaJ8G2xEHw The third album from the German power metal band, Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part II was a huge hit for the band and proved to be one of their most successful albums. An influential master class in power metal, Michael Kiske and co. perfectly balance fast riffs and epic solos with melody, harmony and singalong hooks. The singles Dr. Stein and I Want Out have been persistent fan-favourites and are recognised by metalheads around the world.

I am an ardent musician, having been a guitarist for the past 13 years. I am also a massive geek, I adore science fiction and fantasy films and TV shows and am trying to work up the courage to start writing a novel. If I can ever think of a good story to tell... I live with my wife in the North East of England and own a belligerent little black cat.
