50 Rock And Metal Albums You Need To Hear Before You Die

2. Cream - Disraeli Gears

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1PTrgww3lE Putting Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce in a room with a load of instruments proved to be one of the greatest things to happen to rock music in the late 60s. The supergroup's second album, Disraeli Gears has become a classic rock icon and has inspired musicians the world over to take up instruments and get playing. The best known song from this album is by far and away Sunshine Of Your Love, but look past that and you have a collection of tremendous, intricate and soulful music; from the lead single Strange Brew to the psychedelic groove of We're Going Wrong, every song is a star on this album and it genuinely deserves the praise heaped upon it.

1. Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX0IjD5DPQI One the best selling albums ever, Brothers In Arms is a monumental record in both sound and stature. Part of it's success is that it was the first album marketed directly for CD in 1985, reflected by it's 55 minute running time (more than a single vinyl would take) and at one point the demand for it was so high, CD manufacturing companies were having to delay other albums from being printed to keep up with demand. Mark Knopfler was already regarded as one of the most versatile rock musicians of the day, but on Brothers In Arms he took it to another level. Where else could you get songs like Walk Of Life, Money For Nothing, Why Worry and the title track all on one, non-compilation album? Every song is a winner and the band successfully managed to elevate from themselves from "huge" to "gargantuan". Shifting 30 million copies of anything will do that to you. Are there any other must-listen albums we've missed that people just have to check out? Let us know in the comments!

I am a man of many interests. I am a passionate gamer, running my own YouTube channel (The Gadget Addicts) showing off the best of modern gaming in the form of Let's Play videos. I am an ardent musician, having been a guitarist for the past 13 years. I am also a massive geek, I adore science fiction and fantasy films and TV shows and am trying to work up the courage to start writing a novel. If I can ever think of a good story to tell... I live with my wife in the North East of England and own a belligerent little black cat.
