50 Worst Number Ones Of All Time

25. B*Witched: C€™est La Vie (1998)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvjLgjtJKsc The intro is utterly pointless. Need I say more? Well, the vocals aren€™t the strongest feature, but the jaunty production manages to salvage the song a bit. But the chorus is also quite lazy and when they all attempt to sing in unison, it sounds like a rather lame high school choir. It€™s quite monotone, which is quite jarring on the production. The key change for the final chorus works much better, as it appears they€™re actually putting in some effort. If that were consistent throughout the song, then all would be alright. I say alright, it€™s still far from a credible song. The speaking adlibs are just ridiculous.

24. Cover Drive: Twilight (2012)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73noUWDDpWw Admittedly, the lead vocalist isn€™t horrible. She€™s not amazing, but she blends rather well with the mediocre production. The main issue with this song, as hinted at, is the rather shoddy production, which plods along. Also, the chorus fails to take advantage of the vocalist, as she€™s forced to hold notes left, right and centre. And then the rap kicks in. Not to sound overdramatic, but it is absolutely horrendous. Lasting for about fifteen seconds, it adds nothing to the song whatsoever. But then again, it€™s not actually a surprise that it€™s included, as they also fail to utilise their lead vocalist accordingly. The less said about it the better.

23. Westlife: Uptown Girl (2001)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=489HLBsev8M It€™s clear this was released for the dolla, because the delivery leaves a lot to be desired. Westlife are much better when churning out a ballad or two. On the more energetic numbers, they tend to struggle a bit as their voices don€™t really suit the quicker pace. So why they chose to slaughter Billy Joel€™s €˜Uptown Girl€™, I€™ll never know. It€™s quite a weak performance on the boy€™s behalf, and they only really appear to settle once they hit the outro. However, by that point it€™s too late, and the song which has been dragging its heels for three minutes hits an overdue climax.

22. Will.I.Am: Scream & Shout (2012)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYtGl1dX5qI Guess who€™s back. Back again. William€™s back. Please don€™t tell your friends. I make no secret to the fact that I€™m not Will.I.Am€™s biggest fan, but objectively speaking this song is not very good. The production is rather lacklustre and Britney Spears isn€™t even recognisable, being that Will.I.Am has auto tuned her to Mars and back... not as much as her diabolical appearance on Rihanna€™s €˜S&M€™, but that didn€™t hit number one in the UK. Britney€™s appearance isn€™t even that memorable, being that she repeats the same three words on loop. Will.I.Am€™s rap is also quite lazy, and it€™s clear he favours the production over his ability to string together a verse or two.

21. Take That: Patience (2006)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=273eSvOwpKk When Take That announced their comeback, thousands all over the country were rejoicing. But then they had to go and release €˜Patience€™. It€™s not terrible... but it definitely won€™t sit atop any Take That fan€™s favourites list. The chorus is quite offensive, as Gary Barlow attempts to showcase his rather impressive falsetto. The execution however leaves much to be desired. It leaves many people flinching and yanking their headphones out of their ears before it strikes again. It was always going to hit number one for being Take That, it€™s just a shame they had to single their comeback with such a subpar song.
