6 Early Versions Of Iconic Songs Missing The Iconic Parts
4. "Take On Me"
"Take On Me" by A-ha is part of the soundtrack to the 80s. It is still insanely popular today, on its way to 1 billion views on YouTube. The song went through quite a few growing pains on its way to becoming the most iconic song of the original MTV generation.
The song began not as "Take On Me" but "Lesson One". A-ha had the awesome keyboard riff and the melody for the verses, but before they picked up lead singer Morten Harket, they got creative with their singing style. Instead of Harket's amazing high-pitched wail, we get what sounds like the death rattle of an exotic bird.
The song was rewritten to show off Harket's vocal range and recorded three more times before it became one of the biggest songs of the 80s (with the help of a rad music video). Proving persistence is a key to success.
