6 Essential UK Rock Festivals You Need To Attend In 2014

4. Slam Dunk Festival €“ May Bank Holiday Weekend 2014

Slam Dunk Festival1Headliners: TBA One thing that numbers 4 and 5 have in common is that they both take place in Leeds in the exact same venue (Leeds University). The other thing they have in common is they're easily categorised as boutique festivals, but beyond that they are two very different beasts. Going into its 9th year, the festival has already hosted some of the biggest pop-punk bands to emerge in the last day including but not limited to Fall Out Boy (who headlined the very first festival in 2006), Paramore and You Me At Six. But pop-punk isn't the only genre the festival is limited to with times dedicated to ska-punk, hardcore, electro, acoustic and straight-up old-fashioned punk. Some would say that this variety of genres dilutes some of the genuine talent on display but not so. With at least seven stages, everyone gets to play in a safe environment suited to their personal style, and this is passed onto the fans. And with the annual after-party being held at Cockpit (Leed's premier alternative club venue) the party never stops. Of course without any official line-up announcements made as of yet it's difficult to speculate on the expected quality of 2014 but needless to say if you like variety and a good time this is the festival of choice. Likelihood Of A Sell-Out: 10/10 If you want to go, buy your ticket sooner rather than later, because it always sells out without fail.

I’ve been a film fan for as long as I can remember, with one of my earliest memories watching my dad’s copy of Star Wars one rainy afternoon in the mid-nineties. Then the 21st century happened, and my interests developed from there – mainly including comics and video-games, and recently an introduction into WWE. It’s a good time for popular culture.
