3. Elton John - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zWSJQvFTg4 Much has been made about Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, the apparent anthem for psychedelic drugs. Despite John Lennon claiming otherwise on multiple occasions, people were still quick to point out the letters in the title of the song spell out LSD, and the surreal psychedelic imagery in the songs lyrics certainly didnt help dull down the rumours. Whatever the case the song remains a bonafide classic and that opening guitar movement is among one of their most memorable. Elton John also happened to be a fan of this unorthodox number and decided to do his own version of the song. His version - unlike the original - was released as a single and found its way atop the US billboard charts. While the original is obviously a classic, his version certainly does it justice and is even regarded by many to be superior version. This cover keeps the same psychedelic vibe and time signature changes but features heavier use of organs and piano. Eltons voice also adds a certain gravitas to the song that Lennon lacked.
