4. Santana While My Guitar Gently Weeps
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62Lahi7_Wt8 "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" is often regarded by many to be George Harrisons finest contribution to the band, and is a favourite among many fans. The song is well known for featuring memorable lead guitar parts played by iconic blues guitarist, Eric Clapton. Clapton was invited to play on the song by Harrison in an attempt to make the other members of the group (particularly John and Paul) take the song more seriously as the two leading songwriters would often ignore or disregard a large majority of Georges compositions. It worked, and the song was included on the bands self-titled White Album to much acclaim. It would seem natural, with the song being known for impressive guitar work, that perhaps one of the best covers of the song is performed by a fellow 60s guitar maestro in Carlos Santana. Santana drastically rearranges the song into his famous fusion style of music, incorporating a wide variety of different percussions as well as completely rewriting the lead guitar part. The result, while not anywhere near memorable as the original with Clapton, is still very enjoyable, with impressive vocals and virtuoso guitar playing courtesy of that killer tone Santana always manages to produce.
