6 Incredible Covers Of Classic Beatles Songs

1. Jim Carrey €“ I Am The Walrus

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdzuR4Iunuw The Beatles may have started off their career singing pop songs about love and all that other jazz guaranteed to make them millions of dollars, but it didn€™t take them long to branch out their formula into more complex and thought provoking forms of music. As their drug usage grew so too did the experimentation and complexity in their music. One of the more experimental songs in the Beatles, post-LSD discography is of course the psychedelic rock song, I Am the Walrus. The song is known for its complex chord progression and musical structure as well as its seemingly nonsensical lyrics, with the narrator claiming to be "The Eggman€ while €œsitting on a cornflake€ watching €œyellow matter custard dripping from a dead dog€™s eye.€ John Lennon reportedly wrote this song after finding out that a school teacher had been assigning pupils to analyse his lyrics, which he found incredibly amusing and therefore decided to write the most confusing song he possibly could, before exclaiming, in typical John Lennon fashion, €œlet the f***ers work that one out€. So in 1998 when George Martin (former Beatles producer) took on the task of producing a Beatles cover album, Martin had to find a person with characteristics and a voice that would suit this unorthodox number €“ which he did in Jim Carrey. While the Canadian comedian is unlikely to be anyone€™s first choice to sing a Beatles song; in this case, his choice is nothing short of genius. He has a surprisingly decent voice which actually lends well to the songs, but it€™s the fact that he lets his own weird personality shine through his performance that really captures the spirit of the song. You€™d have to truly be dead inside if watching his performance of the song doesn€™t bring a smile to your face, with his enthusiasm being incredibly infectious as he genuinely seems to be having a lot of fun. Despite numerous attempts by fans and music experts to analyse and come up with some pretentious meaning for it all, the song is at its core a fun, trippy number that features colourful - if ridiculous - wordplay and Jim Carrey's version does well to remind you of that.
