4. Foxes
Website:http://louirose.com/ I've already mentioned Fleet Foxes so here's just Foxes, real name Louisa Rose Allen. Nope, she's not Lily Allen's sister but she does currently reside in London. Originally studying music, Louisa gave it up to focus on just making music under the pseudonym Foxes. Signed to Neon Gold Records who have a huge pop roster under their musical canopy including Marina and the Diamonds, Ellie Goulding, Starsmith, Passion Pit and recent chart-topper Gotye, success looks like it's bobbing on the horizon. Her image is decievingly coy considering her voice is far more powerful than you'd expect whereas imagery tends to be very English with rolling countryside at counterpoint with urban cityscapes and stormy coastlines. The two track EP Youth/Home was the one that got her noticed and both tracks are worth a listen. Youth is atmospheric to the extreme with it's doom-laden drums and rickety beats (plus its garnered attention from the dubstep remixers, if that's your thing) whereas Home is much more restrained to the extent it's like a lullaby. Well a lullaby slathered in dub and industrial clashes. To new EP Warrior then and the stand-out track is White Coats, an instantly catchy soaring number with numerous changes of tempo throughout plus the most gloriously down-tempo balladeering middle 8 section lifted by the quickening piano and chanting calls to finish off. In Her Arms is all sub woofering & bells as if she's in a Zen peace garden on the brink of war whereas title track Warrior is pure uplifting pop balladry with some lush piano action. With an impact date in July, hopefully this EP will get Foxes out of the pop wilderness and into the open. http://youtu.be/q7tfuUzK5W4
