6 Reasons Why Lily Allen Should Be Considered A British Icon
5. She Is An Example To Those Who Left School Without Qualifications And Believed In Her Talent
Lily Allen left school without qualifications. So did Thomas Edison, Bill Gates, Einstein and Richard Branston. Even the guy who invented KFC did not have a qualification to his name. Based on this evidence we should perhaps scrap the school system entirely and replace schools with inflatable bouncy castles. Yes, Lily did attend some of the highest fee private schools in the country. Thirteen in fact, and she got kicked out of every last one of them. There is a slight suggestion based on this that the academic system was not quite for her. That is the thing with schools. They are not a one sized fits all kind of thing. By all accounts (translation: a quick glance at Wikipedia) she was already passionate about her music and managed to get signed by a number of labels, none of whom particularly supported her. So she build her own fan base using her own songs and emerging social media such as Myspace. What Lily demonstrates and where she is a role model is that if you have a talent, and more importantly have the sheer force of will, you will find a way to success. Yes, she had a famous well-off father and yes she had the best of the schools but it's clear both were a hindrance more often than not. Lily Allen built her career. Not her school. Not her family. Just her. So to every wannabe pop star, plumber or architect: you can do a hell of a lot worse for a role model.
