7 Best Experimental Albums Of 2013

4. CFCF - Music For Objects

On Music for Objects, CFCF (the moniker of musician Mike Silver) takes a detour from his normal sound and plays within the realm of minimalist piano music. As with any CFCF album though, there is much more than that beneath the surface into which you can sink your teeth. The songs here sport foundations that are coated in electronics, sifted through filters and behaving in an almost percussive manner. There are hints of jazz throughout the album, although many of the repetitious phrases put much of it closer to the drone category. The music is simply beautiful, lush, and provokes the mind to wander and drift away. It sounds like the album Emeralds would have made next, had they not disbanded.
