1. Aerosmith & RunD.M.C. - Walk This Way
Probably the most well known mash-up on this list, Run-D.M.C.'s cover of Aerosmith's 'Walk This Way' was enough to propel the ageing rockers back into the public consciousness - such that they even eventually had a rollercoaster built in their honour at Walt Disney Studios Park. It's called the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. Honest!
The brilliance of the rap rock amalgamation lies primarily in the video, which sees the two bands literally duelling back and forth between a wall separating their neighbouring studios. The novelty of the vid saw it become by far one of MTV's most popular - even more so than that lovely pencil-shaded rotoscopic a-Ha one everybody loves - and it's now widely regarded as one of the hallmarks of the medium.
Curiously, only Steven Tyler and Joe Perry from Aerosmith appear in the video; to save money, the rest of the band were portrayed by session musicians.
