7 Best Musical Crossovers Ever
2. "Weird Al" Yankovic - Money For Nothing/Beverley Hillbillies*
Another bit of a cheat this one, as none of the artists behind the original songs are involved. "Weird Al" - whose entire career has been predicated on his almost unparalleled ability to produce entertaining parodies of pop-songs - is at it again with this effort, bizarrely yet perfectly marrying the theme tune lyrics of gentrifying yokels The Beverley Hillbillies to Dire Straits' Money For Nothing. If you hadn't heard either individually, you'd be excused for thinking it was the original version.
The song goes one step further by parodying Knopfler and co's groundbreaking music video (the first to ever air on MTV, dontchaknow). Knopfler even performs in the video himself!
The song - due to legal reasons, oddly titled Money For Nothing/Beverley Hillbillies* - featured in Yankovic's movie UHF, alongside further parodies of R.E.M.'s Stand, and Tone Loc's Wild Thing. It's a good film!
