7 Heavy Metal Songs About Vicious Personal Feuds
3. Machine Head - Aesthetics Of Hate
Among those who have garnered a reputation for having frequent wars of words in the media is Robb Flynn of Machine Head, with his now-settled feud with Kerry King being among the most notable.
However, in one instance, Flynn opted to shoot back at the media itself, or at least the editorial drivel that was William Grim’s “Aesthetics of Hate: RIP Darrell Abbott & Good Riddance,” which ostensibly uses Dimebag Darrell’s death and heavy metal music to substantiate its eventual, though not unexpected, dissolution into a political statement.
Equally expected was the backlash that followed, with Machine Head’s “Aesthetics of Hate” calling out the publication by name (“Iconoclast, I hope you burn, burn in hell”) and condemning Grim for having “branded us pathetic for our respect” before imploring “may the hands of God strike them down.”
While there doesn’t seem to have been any further exchange between the two parties thereafter, the song itself garnered the attention of the Grammy Awards as it was nominated for Best Metal Performance in 2008.
