8 Amazing Rock Bands From The 2000s You Forgot Even Existed
6. Elliot Minor
Like The All-American Rejects, people tended to associate Elliot Minor with emo music, but it was difficult as a mid-2000s rock band not to get reduced to that label. In reality, Elliot Minor offered so much more. Before releasing their first studio album, the band recorded a string of very successful singles, including Parallel Worlds, Jessica, The White One Is Evil and Still Figuring Out, all except one of which broke the top 30 in the UK charts, an impressive feat for a group with no album. The thing that made Elliot Minor so unique, however, was their musical background. Each of the members of Elliot Minor are classically trained musicians adept in a huge variety of instruments, including violin, piano, clarinet and saxophone as well as the more traditional guitar, bass and drums. It wasn't uncommon for the band's songs to include heavy use of strings and beautiful vocal harmonies. There's often a stigma that catchy music is somehow lesser, or that there's a certain point after which catchiness marks mediocrity. In actuality, catchy music can still offer extreme depth and complexity, and Elliot Minor were a band that strived to prove that.
