Eurovision giveth, and Eurovision taketh away. Despite forming in 1992, Lordi were granted brief mainstream success in 2006 after becoming the first and up until now the only hard rock act to win the Eurovision Song Contest, as well as being the only Finnish winner in the show's history. The band won the contest with their song Hard Rock Hallelujah, which subsequently entered the top ten of many music charts throughout Europe. The song came from the band's third studio album The Arockalypse, also released in 2006. Following the band's win, the album sold very well and spawned severalother successful singles, including Would You Love A Monsterman and It Snows In Hell. As mentioned, however, the band's success outside Finland was both promoted by Eurovision and ultimately taken back by Eurovision, owing to the fickle nature of the show's popularity. As the memory of the year's show began to fade, so too did interest in Lordi, casting them back into a more limited popularity and causing most people to forget about their gruesome, striking existence.
