Mutilate and sew my new clothes for masquerading/Aprons of flesh corpse, scalped hair, with skin upon my face/Deliver the remains from her womb of earth/Prep the rack and tie up for new love's rebirth/Covert understanding of novice surgery/I'll focus concentration and only take just what I need/For sickness I'm masticating/Dancing and masturbating/Celebrate in fields of night with skin upon my face
Whatever your opinion of Mudvayne's more recent output, their debut album LD 50 is an excellent math metal study of various forms of psychoses. Nothing To Gein, their tribute to one of America's most notorious serial killers Ed Gein, is its standout moment. Gein was a criminally insane cannibal and necrophiliac that cut the skin from his victims and from stolen corpses in order to make furniture and clothing from it. He inspired films such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Psycho. Mudvayne's song is from the killer's perspective, and it is just as twisted as you might expect. Singer Chad Gray snarls and gurgles his way through references to wearing "aprons of flesh corpse, scalped hair" and "skin upon my face" while attempting to study Gein's infamous love for his deceased mother, whose death had supposedly resulted in his madness. Lyrics like "a little boy's best friend's always his mother - at least that's what she said", while creepy, get inside Gein's head in ways that are subtle and intriguing. Plus, of course, the chaotic and complex musical backing just makes the track even more twisted and crazy. The video's pretty awesome too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19FOGcY2zFU
