8 Demo Versions Of Famous Songs You'll Barely Recognise
4. Coldplay Lovers In Japan
Written and recorded for Coldplay's 2008 album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, Lovers In Japan is a song that's propped up at the beginning my jaunty piano but is soon encompassed by a whole host of other instrumentation, including ethereal guitar and banging drums. It's a song where Chris Martin's vocal prowess really shines.
An early demo version of the song, then, strips away all of the musical finery leaving nothing but the piano and a Chris Martin who is very much still attempting to work out the song's vocal fineries. He even stops in the middle to tackle a particularly challenging vocal key. It's an interesting insight into the process of song-making and its made all the more endearing by Martin's humorous final comment: Hmm...that needs a bit of work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZKUv7Ew_94
