8 Disturbing Meanings Of 2013's Biggest Tracks

3. Harlem Shake - Baauer

One of the greatest days of my life was when this song stopped being a thing. Sure, it was funny the first 20 times, but the next 1,980 were a bit excessive. But a lot of people still don't even know where this song actually came from and what the lyrics are, let alone what they mean. The song actually came about in the 80s and was called the "funky monkey of dances." It didn't become mainstream until 2001 in a G. Dep music video. But that's all referring to the dance. The dance theme you recognize from the 2013 youtube memes have nothing to do with the real dance. The song is actually a sample of "Miller Time" by Plastic Little. It's only called Harlem Shake because of the one line in the song that says, "And do the Harlem Shake." Even though...no one is doing the Harlem Shake. So this entire time you thought you were listening to "Harlem Shake?" Nope, not technically. It's all a lie.
