8 Famous Musicians Who Mysteriously Disappeared And Were Never Seen Again

2. Weldon Kees

In truth, Weldon Kees is far better known for his poetry than his musical endeavors. Active from 1934 to 1955, Kees is considered to be one of the most influential poets of his generation. That being said, he was also a jazz pianist whose writing was very much shaped by the Jazz Age.

On July 19, 1955, Kees' car was found abandoned , with the keys still in the ignition, next to the Golden Gate Bridge. He was never seen or heard from following the discovery.

Given the location of the car, being next to the bridge, suicide seems like a plausible explanation for his disappearance. He is said to have talked about killing himself on numerous occasions. However, his body was never recovered.

The day prior to his disappearance, a somber Kees reportedly spoke to his friend Janet Richards. During the conversation, the poet stated, 'Things are pretty bad. I may go to Mexico.' This has gave rise to the theory that he decided to go off the grid and relocate.

It's also worth noting that his own mother claimed she saw her son on the deck of ship near Sydney Harbor, years after his disappearance.

Barring a miraculous breakthrough, it's likely the disappearance of Weldon Kees will forever remain a mystery.
