8 Great Albums That Are Incredibly Top Heavy With Their Best Songs
5. Christine and the Queens - Chris
Christine and the Queens rode a wave of hype after their first album 'Chaleur Humaine' scored big numbers on Spotify and appeared on more than a few albums of the year lists.
Their sophomore effort 'Chris' is more vulnerable than the first, but just as bouncy and bursting with emotional expression. As for the tracklist itself, every single hit is found at the beginning of this album.
The second track 'Girlfriend' has a warm, 80's vibe with a firework hook for a chorus. After that 'The Walker' is a beautifully reflective piece that begs to be sung along to as Chris' vocals ballet on a rumbling growl of electronica.
'5 Dollars' completes the big hits the album hands you, right before 'Goya Soda' gifts the audience with the last song on the album with any uniqueness to it.
The last 5 tracks struggle to muster up the personality that shines in the first half and seem to have been added simply to meet the needed quota. They aren't bad at any stretch, just lacking the memorable resonance from the opening group of songs.
After scoring big on Metacritic, this album opens with some incredible tunes, then drifts into a sea of filler with a surprising drop-off in quality.
