8 Great Albums That Are Incredibly Top Heavy With Their Best Songs

3. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication

'Californication' is a terrific album and showcased RHCP's new mature and refined sound with everything from their previous work being fine-tuned. Kleidus singing is vastly improved, the sound was more hypnotic and chilled, and overall the production just felt tighter.

Some of the finest guitar work and emotional songs in the Pepper's entire repertoire fill up the first half of the album.

'Otherside' and 'Scar Tissue' stand tall as some of the best two songs they have ever done while 'Californication' became a monstrous hit that launched them back into the limelight after their previous album 'One Hot Minute' bombed. The rest of the songs up until the brilliant 7th track 'Easily' are just a phenomenal listening experience.

After this, it's hard to argue that the songs dip just a bit in quality with the tunes 'I Like Dirt' and 'Emit Remus' coming across as filler on an album 15 tracks long. If it wasn't for the fondly loved 'Road Trippin' at the very end of the song, to a casual audience they may not be able to remember a single track from the second half of the album.

There are some bright moments, with 'This Velvet Glove' having a warm, embracing atmosphere and lovely guitar, but it still feels like a lesser copy of some of the opening tunes.

A legendary album, but it's not hard to see how front-loaded the package is with its best work.
