8 Hotly Anticipated 2016 Albums (And Why They'll Be Disappointing)

4. Lady Gaga €“ Untitled 2016 Album

Lagy Gaga burst onto the music scene in 2008 with The Fame, which spawned a host of incredibly successful singles including Just Dance, LoveGame, Paparazzi and Poker Face. The next few years saw Gaga develop into one of the world's most famous pop stars, known for her increasingly bizarre and shocking antics, like covering herself in raw meat or showing up the Grammy Awards in a giant egg. The problem with shocking, though (and meat and eggs, too) is that it has a very distinct shelf-life. There's only so many times a person can act eccentric before it becomes boring and expected. The same can be said for Gaga's music. What gained popularity for its overt sexuality and often explicit nature has gradually began to lose its appeal. Another Gaga song about sex? Wow, surprising. It seems that Gaga herself recognised this problem, though, ditching the tackiness of 2011's Born This Way and attempting to gain some legitimacy with 2013's Artpop. Unfortunately for Gaga, critical reception of the album was mixed, as was the reaction to her 2014 jazz collaboration with Tony Bennett. So if the shock factor has expired, she can't do classy and she can't do collaboration, Gaga's 2016 album will undoubtedly be another boring try-hard affair. But don't take my word for it, Gaga herself has admitted that her time on the FX show America Horror Story has coloured the writing process, specifically saying: "I have returned to something I've believed in so much, which is the art of darkness". So, then...back to trying to shock it is.
