8 Hotly Anticipated 2016 Albums (And Why They'll Be Disappointing)
2. Red Hot Chili Peppers Untitled 2016 Album
Wherefore art thou John Frusciante The last Red Hot Chili Peppers album to be released was in 2011, and it was wildly disappointing. I'm With You was the band's tenth studio album, and the first to be recorded since the departure of long-time guitarist John Frusciante. Not only did I'm With You have to overcome the absence of one of the world's greatest living guitarists, it also had to contend with following up 2006's Stadium Arcadium, the band's brilliant previous double album. Unfortunately for the Chili's, I'm With You just didn't have much personality, and was sorely lacking the prowess of Frusciante. By 2016, then, it'll have been five years since the band's last album the longest they've ever gone between records since their formation in 1983. It's clear the band is struggling to cope with the loss of Frusciante, and their comments on the recording process don't do much to inspire confidence. In 2015, Kiedis was described how the band were moving away from their traditional sound in an attempt to capture a more modern sound, with musician Danger Mouse getting involved in the album's musical direction. This is basically the opposite of what fans want, with many clamouring for the band to try and reclaim its identity after the rather bland I'm With You. On top of that, the band's long-time producer Rick Rubin isn't producing the album the first instance in over twenty-five years.
